Porter Adventist Hospital Notifies Surgery Patients May Be at Risk of Contracting HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C

On February 21, 2018 the Colorado Public Health Department was notified of an “infection control breach” at Porter Adventist for people who had orthopedic or spine surgery over an 18-month period between July 21, 2016 and February 20, 2018. Porter Adventist Hospital advised patients could be at risk for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C or HIV due to a sterilization breach where the process for cleaning surgical instruments following orthopedic and spine surgeries was found to be inadequate.
