Ari Malman

Ari Malman specializes in the area of domestic relations within Elkus and Sisson, P.C., representing numerous Fraternal Order of Police members and other private clients. Mr. Malman represents clients in matters ranging from dissolution of marriage, decision-making of the children (formally known as custody), parenting time, child support, and maintenance (formally known as alimony).

Mr. Malman was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. He then went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with a major in Spanish, and his JD from the Loyola University School of Law in Chicago. While in law school, Mr. Malman participated in the International Law Journal, and the ChildLaw Clinic, where he represented children in abuse/neglect cases. Upon graduation from Loyola, Mr. Malman moved back to Denver, where he was admitted to the Colorado bar on October 31, 2016.

When not in court or in the office, Mr. Malman can be found on the soccer field, fly-fishing, or hiking in the Rocky Mountains. Mr. Malman is also fluent in Spanish, and enjoys travelling and learning new cultures around the globe.

Steven T. Mandelaris

Mr. Mandelaris’ practice focuses on litigation and appeals involving the defense of police officers, sheriffs and governmental officials in disciplinary across Colorado in state and federal courts, and administrative tribunals.  Mr. Mandelaris’ practice also focuses on complex civil litigation involving workers’ compensation, first and third party insurance coverage, personal injury, wrongful death, dram shop liability, criminal defense, and actions for divorce, custody and the modification and enforcement of judgments in domestic relation cases. Mr. Mandelaris has litigated cases throughout Colorado involving catastrophic personal injury, medical malpractice and insurance bad faith and had tried numerous cases to verdict.

Prior to joining Elkus, Sisson & Rosenstein, Mr. Mandelaris gained significant experience as an associate at a Denver law firm handling personal injury and workers compensation claims. Mr. Mandelaris is member of the Colorado Bar Association, Denver Bar Association, Denver Bar and the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association. Steven was admitted to the Colorado Bar in 2006 after having graduated in the top 20% of his class at the University Of Denver Sturm College Of Law. Mr. Mandelaris received his Bachelor of Arts in Supply Chain Management from the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University. Mr. Mandelaris directed procurement, logistics and materials management within multinational automotive and telecommunications companies prior to transitioning into law.

Reid J. Elkus

Mr. Elkus also currently serves as General Counsel to Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 27, which is the largest local Union Police Lodge in the State of Colorado. FOP Lode 27 provides representation to Denver Sheriff Deputies concerning issues ranging from internal affairs investigations, due process rights, civil litigation defense, criminal defense and collective bargaining rights.

Mr. Elkus is licensed in the State of Colorado and is also licensed to practice law in the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States District Court for the District of Colorado. Mr. Elkus is a member of the American Bar Association and the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar.

  • Richard Perkins, et al v. Federal Fruit and Produce (Case No. 11-cv-00542-JAP-KLM).

Mr. Elkus began his legal career with the Greely Public Defender’s Office. While at the Public Defender’s Office, Mr. Elkus tried numerous criminal jury trials which provided him the groundwork in developing and honing his litigation skills.

After working in the Public Defender system, Mr. Elkus was admitted to the prestigious L.L.M. program in Law and Government from the Washington College of Law. While receiving his L.L.M. Mr. Elkus received a federal externship with the Honorable Reggie B. Walton of the United States District Court of the District of Columbia.

After spending a year in Washington, D.C., and working with Judge Walton, Mr. Elkus moved back to Denver, Colorado and started a career in private practice. In private practice, Mr. Elkus has litigated well over 100 cases ranging in various matters including: complex security cases; breach of contract; breach of partnership matters; constructions defect cases, personal injury cases and criminal matters. Over the last several years, Mr. Elkus’ practices has further developed in representing clients in various complex Federal litigation matters to include: violation of First Amendment Rights; violation of the Fourteenth Amendment Due Process Clause; violation of Title VII and Section 1981 (race discrimination cases); violation of the American with Disabilities Act and other Federal Statutes. In fact, Mr. Elkus has recently been successful in litigating a multi-million dollar verdict in Federal District Court against the largest produce distribution company within the State of Colorado on grounds that the company violated an ex-employee Civil Rights, specifically, race discrimination.

Personal Background

Loving Colorado and being a big skier, Reid Elkus moved from Cincinnati, Ohio to attend the University of Denver. After graduating from Denver, Mr. Elkus went back to Ohio to attend law school at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. During law school Mr. Elkus worked in the criminal law clinic where represented indigent clients that were charged criminally.  Working in the clinic Mr. Elkus had the rare opportunity to be one of the only law students to be able try his very first case. After that experience Mr. Elkus knew that trial work was the only area of law he wanted to practice. Thus, in 2000 Mr. Elkus moved back to Colorado and began his legal career.

Zachary D. Wagner

Mr. Wagner’s practice has focused primarily in complex civil litigation, involving real estate disputes, employment law, contract disputes, personal injury, medical malpractice, wrongful death, constitutional law, and products liability matters. A large portion of Mr. Wagner’s practice also focuses on litigation and appeals involving law enforcement officers in the State of Colorado in state court, federal court, and other administrative tribunals. He has successfully litigated many cases to verdict in both state and federal court, and has extensive trial experience. Mr. Wagner is a member of Elkus & Sisson’s team of trial attorneys, and he participates in all phases of the litigation process.

 

Mr. Wagner is a member of the Colorado Bar Association, The Denver Bar Association, and the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association. Mr. Wagner is also active in the Denver Chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Brief History

Zachary Wagner received his Bachelor’s Degree in History from the University of Arkansas while earning the designation “Fulbright Senior Scholar,” winning the James W. Hudson Award for the study of History, and graduating summa cum laude.

After completing his undergraduate studies, Mr. Wagner attended the University of Colorado Law School, where he received his Juris Doctorate. While in law school, Mr. Wagner served as a research associate at the Natural Resources Law Center. Prior to graduation, Mr. Wagner gained litigation experience while serving as a student attorney in the American Indian Law Clinic, as well as working for a criminal defense firm in Denver.

Donald C. Sisson

Mr. Sisson has litigated over 100 cases to verdict, in various venues such as: arbitration forums, administrative panels (including the Career Service Authority and Civil Service Commission), and State and Federal District Courts. His representation of his clients ranged from individuals and small businesses, to very large corporations, in several areas of the law. Mr. Sisson currently serves as General Counsel to the Colorado State Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police (“FOP”). The FOP provides representation to over 5,000 law enforcement officers in the State of Colorado, concerning issues including internal affairs investigations, due process rights, civil litigation defense, criminal defense, and collective bargaining rights.

  • Lead counsel in representation of Colorado Company, against claims by sales director that he was a 1/3 owner of the company, which resulted in nuisance value settlement.
  • Lead counsel in representation of Colorado Insurance Agency against an agent for breach of fiduciary duties, which resulted in six-figure settlement.
  • Lead counsel in premise liability action against national company, which resulted in one of the largest Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Verdicts on Record.
  • Lead counsel in 1st Amendment Retaliation case against Sheriff Douglas Darr, which resulted in one of the largest awards in Adams County history.
  • Co-Counsel in Felony Menacing case against Denver Deputy Sheriff, which resulted inacquittal on three of four charges. The one charge that he was convicted on, was overturned by the Colorado Supreme Court.
  • Co-Counsel in 3rd Degree Assault case for Adams County Sheriff’s Deputy, DarinPoole, which resulted in full acquittal.
  • Lead counsel in 3rd Degree Assault/Harassment case of Denver Deputy Sheriff, AnneKelly, which resulted in a full acquittal.
  • Lead counsel in Appeal of the termination of two Denver Police Officers, JosePalomares & David Torrez, which resulted in reversal of termination by the Civil Service Commission.
  • Lead counsel in Breach of Warranty action against multiple national companies, which resulted in favorable settlement.
  • Co-Counsel in Federal District Court Jury Trial, which resulted in a multi-milliondollar verdict against Federal Fruit & Produce (one of the largest produce distribution companies in the State of Colorado): Case No. 11-cv-00542-JAP-KLM.
  • Lead counsel in multi-million dollar commercial construction defect case, which resulted in a seven-figure settlement one week before trial.
  • Lead counsel in several mechanic’s lien cases, which have resulted in favorable outcomes for clients.
  • Co-counsel in First Amendment Retaliation case against Pueblo County Sheriff, Kirk Taylor, and the Chain of Command on behalf of Sergeant Thomas McLallen, III, which resulted in a judgment in the amount of $311,600.00, plus attorneys’ fees and costs: Case No. 10-cv-01187-RPM.
  • Obtained acquittal in case defending Commerce City Police Officer, Robert Price, against charges of Animal Cruelty (Class 6 Felony).
  • Lead counsel in case defending former Adams County Deputy Sheriff, David Morrow, against 1st Degree Assault charges.
  • Lead counsel in defending Adams County Deputy Sheriff, Catalin Pavel, against Forgery charges.
  • Lead counsel in Class Action/Collective Bargaining Action against the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department for violations of the FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act) and Breach of Contract.

Personal Background

Mr. Sisson was born in East Patchogue, New York in 1976. Mr. Sisson attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. While at West Point, Mr. Sisson played Division I college ice hockey. In 1999, Mr. Sisson graduated from West Point with a B.S. in Systems Engineering and a minor in English.

Upon graduation, Mr. Sisson received his commission into the United States Army as a Finance Officer. Mr. Sisson attended the Finance Officer Basic Course at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. After his successful completion of the Finance Officer Basic Course, Mr. Sisson was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas where he became the Training and Operations Officer for the 230th Finance Battalion in support of the 4th Infantry Division.

After completing his military service, Mr. Sisson attended law school at the University of Minnesota. During law school, Mr. Sisson received a federal externship with Magistrate Franklin L. Noel of the United States District Court of the District of Minnesota. In addition, Mr. Sisson spent his final semester of law school studying international law at Tilburg University in the Netherlands. After receiving his law degree in 2004, Mr. Sisson moved to Denver, Colorado and started a career in private practice.
