Emily A. Berkeley joined Elkus & Sisson, P.C. as an associate attorney in August 2007. She specializes in family law, handling divorce cases, child support, child custody, adoption and prenuptial agreements. She also handles general Civil Litigation cases. Ms. Berkeley earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1995 from Lake Forest College, where she graduated with honors. Ms. Berkeley earned her juris doctor from the University of Colorado School of Law in 2004.
During law school Ms. Berkeley enjoyed working for the University of Colorado School of Law Legal Aid and Defender Clinic, representing indigent clients in their family law and immigration cases. She gained over 500 hours of experience as a student lawyer doing this work. She also gained invaluable experience while attending law school at the University of Barcelona during the summer of 2002.
Ms. Berkeley found great satisfaction in serving the law school and general community through activities such as Outlaw (Co-Chair, 2 years), Student Bar Association (Representative, 3 years), American Bar Association (students’ division), Colorado Bar Association (students’ division), and Latino law Students’ Association. She was proud to receive the honor of being the first student to receive the Victor Quinn Scholarship two years in a row (2002 and 2003).
Between the time she graduated form Lake Forest College and attended law school, Ms. Berkeley lived in Byronas, Greece, teaching English as a second language to private students and executives at the local Coca-Cola bottling company. She also worked as a counselor, and later an information technology support specialist, at Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains.
Ms. Berkeley spends most of her free time skydiving at Mile Hi Skydiving in Longmont, Colorado. She has a D License in skydiving (500 jumps or more) and is currently a United States Parachute Association Skydiving Coach Instructor. She is also an avid international traveler, loves the Denver Broncos, volunteers for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in Denver and volunteers for Chihuahua Rescue and Transport.
