Nikea T. Bland
Nikea T. Bland joined Elkus & Sisson, P.C. after practicing four years as a Deputy State Public Defender in the Denver trial office. Ms. Bland earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Richmond in her native Richmond, VA, where she graduated with honors. After college, Ms. Bland utilized her social work background mentoring and counseling at-risk juveniles as a youth counselor for two years. The experience strengthened her desire to attend law school and Ms. Bland began attending the University of Colorado, School of Law in 2002 where she earned her juris doctor degree in 2005. While at the University of Colorado, Ms. Bland was President of the Black Law Students Association, participated as a student attorney in the Legal Aid and Defender Program, and competed nationally on the University of Colorado Moot Court Team. After interning at the Public Defender's Office, Ms. Bland joined the Denver office in 2005. She received the prestigious Lowery Trial Advocacy Award for outstanding trial skills in 2006. Ms. Bland has extensive trial experience including both misdemeanor and felony matters ranging from simple drug possession to first degree murder. Prior to joining Elkus & Sisson, P.C., Ms. Bland gained experience in labor law working for the largest labor union in Colorado. Ms. Bland specializes in criminal defense and civil litigation.
Ms. Bland has been coaching a local high school mock trial team since 2007. She is an avid traveler, Jack Russell Terrier owner, and member of the Sam Cary Bar Association.
